Search Engine Profile: Yahoo
Yahoo was developed in the trailer of David Filo and Jerry Yang who were simply using the basis of Yahoo in order to track their personal interests that they were visiting when on the Internet. Then they started to notice that their personal interests were so immense that the program that they developed could not keep up, then they decided to put these interests into categories that were more easily managed. They then later had to use sub-categories due to their immense interests. And this was the birth of Yahoo!, since it uses the same basic information to control the search engine results that it gives those that are using. The two men became so focused making this work that they were skipping over their academics at Stanford University, though at the time the project seemed nothing more than a simple way to make their own Internet usage work better for them.
So where did the name Yahoo! come from? Most people are assuming that the search engine was named after the delicious chocolate drink, however, that is not at all right. IN fact, Yahoo is more of less the acronym for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle". However, according to the founders, they simply went with the name since they liked the definition that means something that is not tamed and so forth. To them this spoke volumes about how the search engine came to be and how they were in developing the engine.
During the time that the two men were working on the software, they were having many friends and those that were in Stanford that were considering the software something that they simply could not live without. And beyond the doors of Stanford, more and more people were using the search engine in order to organize their searches. Unknown to the men, they had stumbled upon something that would make them future millionaires and help thousands of people in the future when they are conducting online searches.
Nowadays, Yahoo is considered the largest brand out there. They reach a global audience and anywhere that someone goes that can rest assure that people know and understand what Yahoo is since it is used by so many people. Along with search engines, the company provides information for those that are starting up their business in terms of Internet marketing and other information that is going to help them succeed in the world. Giving it the reputation as being one of the most helpful websites that people can use when they are looking for information to start a business.
Yahoo has entered into an agreement with Bing recently that is going to combine the technology of the two search engines to make something that most people are excited to see. Which is the future of the Yahoo company. More and more people are hopeful for this union between the two and are looking forward to the results. It is definitely something to look for in the future of online search engines.
