Search Engine Profile: Google
Google is one of those online search engines that have gained significant popularity since the Internet became something that more and more people are using to find their information. Surprisingly, Google was started in a garage by two students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, from Stanford University. They took something that was basically nothing and turned this into what is today a multi billion dollar corporation that employs around 12,000 people with hopes of growing even further. The company has been ranked by many professional magazines, including Forbes and those students that are at prestigious universities as the place that they would love to work, which says a lot with all the competition that is out there for jobs in this field. Their main goals in their job are still the same after all these years since they first began in 1994, and that is to do work that is going to benefit the world, without doing evil. And have this work be something that is fun and challenging to do. Something that most of those that work with the company testify are still dominant in the company with everything that they do.
Google was one of those that were the first in line to have their search engine find websites based on the first few words that the person types into the search engine bar (for the tech kiddies: they do this by manipulating the Javascript DOM model in the background with AJAX). And then looking at what they are offering those that use Google today, they have steadily become the number one search engine with lightning fast results that are displaying as the person types the search term that they need to find. This kind of technology is still something that not all other search engines are including on their websites, which puts Google on the cutting edge in the eyes of most people.
Add into the fact that Google has branched out to include their own software that allows people to use the Internet, called Google Chrome, have many applications for android phones that is based off of their technology, and it is clear that Google has become something more than a simple search engine that people use. It is the hub of all information that people are trying to find. Which is something that Google has always had the idea of doing, and they have maintained the ability to do it with having the cutting edge employees that it has.
Google has offices that are located all over the world, however, their main office is in California that is responsible for many of the innovations that are coming into the public eye for the first time as being some of the best that the world has to offer. Those that work for Google are often astonished at just how well employees are getting treated since they are treated more like family than anything when compared to other places to work. It is through this type of motivation that Google plans to keep for years to come. And in the future, who knows what kind of stuff we are going to see coming out of Google, as they tend to keep people guessing.
