Search Engine Profile: Bing

Bing is one of those search engines that are considered fairly new to what the Internet has to offer. Bing was originally MSN Search, which was one of those search engines that were responsible for the change that search engines had years to come that was offered by Microsoft. Those that are unfamiliar with Bing, have more then likely seen the advertisements for this as they did hit the marketing scheme very hard when this was released on June 3rd, 2009. They targeted those that were wanting choices that were more prominent to what they want to find, instead of simply looking for the words that match what the person has typed into the search box. Right now, the percentage of the market that Bing has is around 12.8% which is what they have taken from other search engines such as Ask, Google and Yahoo. Though it is not much, the accomplishment of taking away some of the popularity as the other search engines is one way in which the company has become more popular.

Microsoft used the past search engines that they had included MSN Search, Windows Live Search and so forth that were simply not up to the standards that people were wanting when they were conducting an Internet search. In this setting, Microsoft was simply behind the rest of its competitors because it was not including search engines that the person was really going to benefit from as much. However with Bing they were able to include many factors that people find amazing, such as the ability to change the backgrounds on a daily basis that is done automatically by Microsoft, the links that are shown on the search engines are going to give them a small preview of the webpage that they are looking at and help to decide whether this is something that would be of help to them or not, sub links are included in many links so the person can go directly to what they are searching for, and so forth. It was through the use of these things that made Bing stand out to the crowd.

Another feature of Bing is that it can display some information on the home page that is going to help the person looking there, such as the sports scores of events that are of interest to them, financial stocks and other information, flight tracking and other information that the person may find helpful in their life. Which is similar to what other search engines can offer on their home page. Recently, Bing and Yahoo! decided to make a deal in which they combine their two search engines. Yahoo will start using the technology that Bing is offering the world and the two will share the spotlight. It is through this decision that they hope that the two will become the dominating search engines that people use. This deal is set to take place and start to work in 2012, thus people have a few more months to wait to see how this deal works out for them.
